North Star Group today announced that Matt de Ris, Manager- Systems Engineering, was recently appointed as the working group co-chairman of the RTCA SC-206 committee focusing on the Data Link of Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) and Meteorological Information Services (MET) for the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). Mr. de Ris will lead Working Group 3 (WG3) tasked with developing AIS and MET Data Link Service Delivery Architecture Recommendations.
The FAA and North Star Group are committed to developing and deploying NextGen. In the highly automated NextGen environment, improved data link services are critical to achieving a common operating picture between ground and air. Key objectives for SC-206 include timely availability of high-quality and reliable AIS and MET information. The goal of global AIM is to provide access to on-line, real-time quality information to any aviation user, anytime, anywhere.
Organized in 1935 as the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics, RTCA is a private, not-for-profit corporation that functions as a Federal Advisory Committee. More than 400 government, industry and academic organizations from the United States and around the world are currently members of RTCA, including North Star Group.
North Star Group’s de Ris has extensive experience in the aviation industry. A former pilot for SkyBus Airlines and Independence Air flying Airbus and Bombardier aircraft, de Ris has more than 17 years in the cockpit and 20 years in the aviation industry.
